At Spencer, we want to stay in contact with kids and their families during this unusual time of separation. So I am issuing a challenge to my Spencer kids (youth and adults are welcome to join in the fun).
1) Each day, I will post a challenge. You can find it on the Spencer Facebook page, or here on the Spencer website.
2) Complete the challenge and post a pic (or text Kelly a picture at 828-429-0124) of that day’s assignment with the hashtag that will be included in that day’s instructions.
3) Finish the challenge & send in the Pic by 8 PM each day for a chance to earn points.
Since school is out this week, our Kid’s Challenges will be a bit different. Listed below are several tasks that can be done this week. Each task is worth 1 point. If all of the tasks are complete by next Sunday at 11 AM, you will receive 5 bonus points. Do these all at once, or spread them out over the week. Post to our facebook page or text to Kelly – the hashtag for the week is #spencerkidsrule
**Draw a picture or make a card for someone who lives alone. Mail it to them (you can call the church office for an address). – Matthew 22:39 – Love your neighbor as yourself.
Clue: Shake me, roll me, what will I be? Snake eyes or doubles?
Wait and see! What am I?
CLUE:
One touch will make you frown. I’m not meant to be twisted into a crown. What am I? (if you can’t take a picture of this, you can post your answer)
Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. Matthew 26:14-15
“I have called you by name, you are Mine.” Isaiah 43:1
Rejoice Always (even when you can’t find matching socks)
Today’s challenge is to show me your mismatched socks. Bonus points if you can get an adult in your house to show their mismatched socks with you! Post your photo with hashtag #spencerkidsrejoice or send to Kelly by text or email!
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances.
We are beginning a new week! It’s time for an easy challenge to celebrate all that we have done for the last two weeks.
Don’t be afraid. Show me your most crazy, wacky hair and remember Luke 12:7 which tells us that God counts every hair on our heads. Take a picture with your wacky hair (if your hair is too short, any type of hat will work) and post it with the hashtag #spencerkids
Think about people who are by themselves right now, including our Nursing Home or Homebound friends (they don’t have to be related to Spencer). Let’s show love to them in a special way today. Find materials in your house to make a card or create a picture that will brighten their day, then mail it to them. If you need an address, let me know and I will get it to you. Let’s love our neighbors today! To complete the challenge, post or send me a picture of your efforts with the hashtag #spencerkidslove.
Alright friends, I think some of you are beginning to get a bit stir-crazy being at home. I wonder if your rooms are a mess! I hope not because you are going to need to find some things to complete today’s challenge. There is a list of items included in my post. Find as many of them as you can around your house. Gather all the items into one place and take a picture of your treasure! Post your picture with the hashtag #spencerkidstreasure
Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of God’s good news in these earthly bodies of ours. The awesome power of God belongs to God and doesn’t come from us. We are experiencing all kinds of trouble, but we aren’t crushed. We are confused, but we aren’t depressed. We are harassed, but we aren’t alone. God does not abandon us. We are knocked down, but we aren’t knocked out.
2 Corinthians 4:7-9
To earn points for this challenge, create a piece of art that shows what you are grateful for today. You can use any materials that you have, but ask your parents to take a picture of you with your creation and post it with the hashtag #spencerkidsgrateful
“The name of the Lord is like a strong tower. Godly people run to it and are safe.” Psalm 28:7
Today’s challenge is about worship. Just because we are not meeting at church like we normally do, doesn’t mean that we are not worshipping God. The last time we met for Children’s Choir, we talked about worship and watched a video about worship. We learned that we can worship ANYWHERE!
We won’t have challenges over the weekend, but you can get BONUS POINTS by posting a picture of yourself watching/listening to worship on Sunday. Just use the same hashtag. #spencerkidsworship
The sun has been shining today! I am thinking about the verse in Psalm 118:24 that says, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Today’s challenge is simple. Go outside for a few minutes and enjoy what God has made. Have someone take a picture of you enjoying God’s creation. Post it to the Spencer Facebook page with the hashtag #spencerkidsrejoice or text it to Kelly before the end of the day.
Romans 8:38-39 (NIRV)
“I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God’s love. Not even angels or demons, the present or the future, or any powers can separate us. Not even the highest places or the lowest, or anything else in all creation can separate us. Nothing at all can ever separate us from God’s love. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done.”
Draw a picture that represents God’s love for us. It may be something as simple as a heart or a cross, or as detailed as the complete story of Jesus. Take a picture of it and post it with today’s hashtag (#spencerkidsgodiswithus). Bonus points if you are in the picture, too! Then hang your picture in a place that you will see several times a day. Each time you see it, remember that nothing at all can separate us from God – not even being separated from each other and from the church building.
Since we did not have our Sunday School lesson this past weekend, let’s all read the Bible passage at home. You can find it in the New Testament, in the book of Luke. Find chapter 2 and read verses 1 – 20. You should recognize the story!!!
To earn points for today’s challenge, have someone take your picture reading the Bible Story. To earn 5 bonus points, tell me what the story is when you post you picture. Remember to put the hashtag for today in your post: #spencerkidsbiblestory
Post to Spencer Facebook page or text to Kelly (828)429-0124 to earn your points!!
