As Baptists, we are a diverse group of people. As a result, we at Spencer do not have a “creed” as such, but rather follow the Baptist tradition which includes a belief in local church autonomy and the priesthood of all believers. As a general statement, however, we can say that:
- We believe in God, Creator of heaven and earth and all things that are
made.
- We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died for our sins and if we believe in Him we are redeemed. Salvation is the gift of God's grace through faith and is freely given upon all who put their faith in Him.
- We believe in the Holy Spirit, God's guiding power and presence in our lives and in our world.
- We believe in the Bible, God's authoritative guide for life and faith for all people.
- We believe in each believer as a gifted servant of God, redeemed by Christ and called for ministry in the name of Christ.
- We believe in the church and that our task is to bring people and God together in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord through worship, fellowship, and missions.
- We believe in worship as being God-centered and the primary focus of our fellowship. We must first reach up to God before we can reach out to others.
- We believe in the fellowship and the nurturing support of our church family. We must reach out to one another as we also reach out to others.
- We believe in God’s call to missions in responding to the spiritual and physical needs of our people, our community, and our world by offering our gifts of time, talents and resources.
- We believe in the fact that God will provide the means for the church and it’s fellowship to accomplish their callings – where God guides, God provides.
